Timber Sourcing Statement
Our Commitment
Real wood lies at the heart of our business. We craft all our furniture from solid hardwood and take great care to ensure we source this wood legally and responsibly. By sourcing timber responsibly, we positively impact forests and the communities that depend on them.
EU Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products (EUDR)
Objective: To minimize the EU’s impact on global deforestation and forest degradation by ensuring that only “deforestation-free” products are placed on or exported from the EU market.
Cut-off Date: Products must not have been produced on land that was deforested or subjected to forest degradation after December 31, 2020.
Legality: The goods must also comply with the relevant laws of the country of production, including human rights and land use rights.
Conduct Due Diligence: Collect detailed information, perform risk assessments to ascertain the risk of non-compliance (e.g., using a country’s risk level classification), and mitigate identified risks.
Provide Geolocation Data: Trace products back to the specific plot of land where the commodities were produced, often requiring GPS coordinates and satellite imagery.
Submit a Due Diligence Statement: Upload a statement to the European Commission’s dedicated online Information System attesting that due diligence was performed and the products have a negligible risk of non-compliance.
- Fines of up to at least 4% of a company’s total annual EU turnover.
- Confiscation of the products or the revenue gained from them.
- Temporary exclusion from public procurement processes and public funding.
Our Sourcing
We trace the wood in your furniture back to its origins. Each piece of our furniture comes from suppliers who uphold ethical practices with complete transparency. Additionally, our sourcing team regularly visits our suppliers’ factories and, at times, the forests, plantations, or farms themselves. They confirm that the timber used in our products is the exact species and from the stated place of origin.
Moreover, we do not source timber for any of our products if it:
- Comes from illegal harvests;
- Violates traditional and human rights;
- Threatens high conservation values in forests due to management activities;
- Is harvested from forests being converted to plantations or non-forest use.
Furthermore, we ensure our furniture fully complies with UK and EU Timber Regulations.
Where Does Our Wood Come From?
We source our wood from around the world. For instance, our wood comes from China. Similarly, our Teak wood comes from Indonesia, our acacia comes from Vietnam, and our mango wood comes from India.
How Do We Trace the Wood?
Our suppliers must disclose the entire timber supply chain as part of the terms and conditions of trading with Yumen Global Furniture. This includes the forests where the trees are harvested and the sawmills used to process the wood. In addition, we verify the information our suppliers provide. Furthermore, suppliers provide documentation with each shipment detailing all the timber used.
Finally, we fumigate our furniture before shipping to ensure safety. Consequently, we include a fumigation certificate with each shipment.
